no, really, i have everything i could ever possibly want

so my birthday is in april coming up.

inevitably, one is asked during any gift giving occasion what one wants. as children, we typically want the lastest, greatest, noisiest, most definitely battery needing money-waster.

as teenagers and pre-teens, our tastes have evolved. the lastest batch of tweenagers probably asked for cell phones (w/ unlmtd txtng pls), i-pods, psps and the like. back in my tweenager days (when the term “tweenager” didn’t exist), i wanted a walkman.

then you move out of your parents house, and with all this new found freedom, you also discover what you want, turns into what you need…”i’d like my water bill paid this month”, “i’d like some placesettings because my roommate used them as frisbees”, “food for my goldfish”. you didn’t realize that stuff requires money, did ya’?

after visiting your abode, what they end up gifting you with is (depending on how much they love you how much they can afford) either house cleaning services for a month or a broom, a mop and a bucket.

you’ve now settled down some and put the broom and mop to some use. you’ve maybe married, had a kidlet or two and still gift requests end up falling around the “life would be a little easier with _______.” category rather than “it would blow my mind if i recieved _______!!!” category. for my 22nd birthday, i asked for a 14in skillet. i recieved, still have, and use that skillet, but was made fun of for my gift of choice and was told that i needed to ask for things i wanted.

so, going along those lines…”what do you want for your birthday?”

i just can’t think of a single thing. i know it sounds strange, but i’m pretty content with everything that i have. with today’s economy, i wouldn’t feel right asking for anything anyway. i have a wonderful husband, amazing children, loving parents, kind friendswhat more could a girl ask for?

now, it’s late, and cold. so i’m going to slip my size 10 feet into a pair of socks, throw on a medium shirt, hit the hay and fall asleep reflecting on all the wonderful things i have.
